Bladen County’s roadways are rapidly improving after last night’s snowfall, according to Kenneth L. Clark with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.  DOT crews worked overnight salting the roadways in the county.

“The US and North Carolina routes look great,” said Clark.

He said the eastern end of Bladen County around the Kelly, Rowan and East Arcadia areas received the heaviest amounts of precipitation and crews are working diligently there to break up the ice and snow. Clark said this area is where NC DOT crews are concentrating their efforts.  He cautioned motorists to not tailgate the DOT trucks and give them plenty of room to maneuver as they work.

“In the rest of the county, things are drying out,” said Clark.

He added there may be some slick spots on some roads in the morning as the melted snow refreezes overnight. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the mid-teens overnight.

Bladen County Emergency Management Director Bradley Kinlaw said Kelly and the Carvers Creek area received the brunt of the storm in Bladen County. Overall, Kinlaw said the county received a lot less snow than was originally forecast.

“There will be a lot of melting today, but it will refreeze tonight,” said Kinlaw.

Kinlaw said no decision has been made regarding schedules for Bladen County government offices for Friday.
