NC DOTNC Department of Transportation officials are working diligently to repair what Hurricane Matthew destroyed in a matter of hours. In Division 6, which includes Bladen County, DOT reports significant damage to roadways and bridges.

In Division 6 alone NC DOT saw a number of road closures. In Bladen County some of the closures included U.S. 701, N.C. 53, N.C. 210, N.C. 211 Business, N.C. 242, and NC 41 East at Sampson/Bladen County line, and NC 41 at the Bladen/Robeson County line to name a few.

Other significant road closures that occurred included

The closing of I-95 in Lumberton due to flooding
The closing of U.S. 74 east of Whiteville

Some roads have since re-opened to traffic while others remain closed due to continued flooding or issues with washouts.

NC DOT reports that additional personnel have been brought in to assist with the repairs and damage assessments.
