LELAND – An 8-run third-inning staked South Park to a 13-1 lead en route to a 13-8 victory over Elizabethtown Monday in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament.

South Park scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning on Sunday night, before Garrison Tatum blasted a home run to lead off the Elizabethtown first inning. Rain halted the game at that point, and it was resumed on Monday.

South Park opened Monday’s action with 2 runs in the second and 8 runs in the third to build the 13-1 lead.

Elizabethtown rallied with 5 runs in the third inning. Destin Montgomery smashed a single and scored when Hunter Elks walloped a 2-run home run. Carson Gooden and Garrison Tatum drew walks and both scored when Evan Pait clobbered a 3-run home run to close the gap to 13-6.

Garrison Tatum cracked a 2-out single in the fifth, and Pait reached on an infield hit. Ty Mathis walked, and Ryan Johnson ripped a single to left-centerfield that scored Garrison Tatum.

Coleman Tatum yanked a single to left in the sixth inning, and Tyler Johnson was hit by a pitch. Weston Hatcher slammed a single to left that scored Coleman Tatum.

Garrison Tatum batted 2-2 with a solo home run and 3 runs scored. Pait finished 2-4 with a 3-run homer. Elks slugged the 2-run homer. Ryan Johnson and Hatcher belted run-scoring singles, and Coleman Tatum, Montgomery and Mathis added one hit each.
