KENANSVILLE– Clinton defeated Bladen County 10-3 Monday night in the winners’ bracket finale of the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Small League State Tournament.
Bladen County will play North Duplin Tuesday at 6 p.m. in an elimination game. A victory would advance the Bladen team to a championship game Wednesday.
Bladen County scored a pair of first inning runs to take an early 2-1 lead. D. A. Smith and Andre Moore drew walks, and Shy’Asia Ratliff knocked in both Smith and Moore with a single.
Clinton scored 3 runs in both the second and third innings and added two more in the fourth to build a 9-2 lead.
The final Bladen run came in the fifth inning. Trent Meares reached base on a 2-out error and raced home when Smith belted a single.
Ratliff cracked the 2-run single. Moore, Smith and Hezzy Blanks connected for one hit each. Smith drove in a run and scored one. Moore and Meares scored one run each.
