WINNABOW – Columbus County defeated Bladen County 7-1 Saturday in the opening round of the NC Junior Dixie Boys Baseball State Tournament at Town Creek Park.
Columbus scored two runs in the second inning, tacked on a run in the third then pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning.
Andre Moore reached base in the Bladen fifth inning, and Hunter Elks slammed a two-out double to drive him in.
Elks and Lee Barnes slugged doubles, and Carson Gooden and Aaron Wren belted singles for the Bladen County hits. Moore scored the run, and Elks drove it in. Britt Sasser started on the mound for Bladen County.
Bladen County will play the Hope Mills/Lumberton loser in an elimination game Sunday at 2 p.m.
