WINNABOW – Hope Mills defeated Bladen County 5-1 Monday night in the North Carolina Junior Dixie Boys Baseball State Tournament. Bladen County completed the round-robin phase of the tournament with a 1-2 record.

Hope Mills turned four hits into three runs in the top of the first inning.

Bladen County answered with a run in the home first. Devon Strange smacked a single to centerfield and raced home when Destin Montgomery hammered a double to right-centerfield.

Hope Mills tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning.

Garrison Tatum batted 2-3 and slammed a double to lead the Bladen hitters. Evan Pait also finished with a 2-3 game at the plate. Montgomery doubled home the Bladen run, and Devon Strange singled and scored the Bladen run.

Josh Russ pitched the first inning for Bladen County and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out one. Montgomery relieved and pitched 2.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. Devon Strange came on in relief and worked the final 3.1 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out six.
