Spread the love

Charlotte, NC (February 11, 2021) – NC MedAssist, a non-profit pharmacy which primarily serves low-income, uninsured North Carolina residents with prescription and over-the counter-medication, is taking Valentine’s Day to a new level this year.

A holiday that originally started centuries ago as a festival to celebrate the coming of spring and the lottery of pairing men and women, is now thought of as a day of love and romance across the world. Each year, people scramble trying to find the perfect gift for that special someone in their lives. But what do you get someone who has everything they need? How can you come up with a gift unlike anything you’ve ever given before? This is where NC MedAssist’s Valentine’s Day Sponsor-a-patient campaign comes in. https://medassist.org/valentine/

“We wanted to try something a little different this year for Valentine’s Day,” said Sheila Kidwell, Director of Foundations and Communications at NC MedAssist. “2020 was a year unlike many of us have experienced in our lifetime. The world slowed down, and left many with nothing but time to ponder their lives. However, for others, it brought about hardships they had never before been confronted with.”

Just like many other charitable organizations across the state, NC MedAssist is looking for innovative ways to bring in donations, which are then used to provide medicine to nearly 60,000 NC residents each year.

“Rather than spending $200 on a bouquet of flowers that will die in a week, give the gift of life to a neighbor in need,” said Kidwell. “Many of our patients have to make the difficult choice between purchasing groceries for their families, or their prescription medications each month; a choice many of us have never had to face.”

NC MedAssist is the only charitable free pharmacy to serve patients statewide. Last year, more than 20,000 patients received prescription medications mailed to their homes at no cost. With more than 75% of our patients on medicine to treat a chronic illness such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease, your donation can make the difference between life and death for many living in poverty. A gift of $200 will sponsor a patient for an entire year, $100 will sponsor a patient for 6 months, and $50 will sponsor a patient for 3 months. For donations of $100 or a more, a special Valentine’s Day card will be mailed directly to your loved one. Additionally, all donations will receive an electronic acknowledgement which can be given to your loved one on that special day.

In addition to their Free Pharmacy Program, NC MedAssist provides over-the-counter medicine items to nearly 40,000 individuals each year through their Free OTC store located in Charlotte, as well as their mobile drive-thru events which are hosted each week in different counties throughout the state. To see if a mobile event is headed to your community, you can visit the calendar of events found here: https://medassist.org/mobile/ . For those who live in the Charlotte area and would like to receive over-the-counter items through their Free Store, an online order form can be found on their website: https://medassist.org/otc-free-store/
