STANLEY –West Robeson American rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to edge Elizabethtown 12-11 Sunday night in an elimination game in the North Carolina State Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch Tournament.

West Robeson scored 3 runs in the first inning and another run in the second to take a 4-0 lead, before Elizabethtown scored 3 runs in the bottom of the second. Brady Marlowe belted a lead-off single, and Cade Rogers laced a single to leftfield.

Cooper Long drove in Marlowe with a single, and Seth Faircloth’s fielder’s choice plated Rogers. Fox Sutton knocked in Long with a single that trimmed the margin to 4-3.

West Robeson padded the lead to 6-3, but Elizabethtown answered with two runs in the fourth. Ryker Strickland smacked a lead-off single, and Tyler Eason walloped a triple that scored Strickland. Marlowe ripped a single that scored Eason and closed the gap to 6-5.

Elizabethtown scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Faircloth, Sutton and Jag Gooden cracked singles to load the bases. Javonte Smith clubbed a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Faircloth. Omar Powell swatted a single that scored Sutton with the go-ahead run.

West Robeson connected for six consecutive 2-out hits in the top of the sixth inning to score the six runs and take a 12-7 lead.

Elizabethtown fought back with four runs in the home sixth. Strickland and Eason started the inning with singles. Marlowe delivered a single that scored Strickland. Rogers slugged a single that scored Eason.

Long’s fielder’s choice scored Marlowe, and Sutton smashed a 2-out single that scored Rogers to whittle the margin to 12-11.

Marlowe batted a perfect 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Strickland finished 3-3 at the plate with a double and 3 runs scored. Sutton also batted 3-3 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored.

Eason batted 2-3 with a triple, an rbi and 2 runs scored. Rogers finished 2-3 at the plate with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Powell, Long, Faircloth and Jag Gooden added one hit each to the Elizabethtown attack.

Long and Faircloth scored one run each. Long drove in 2 runs, and Powell, Faircloth and Smith drove in one run each.

West Robeson American advanced to a Monday afternoon game.
