NC Superintendent Mark Johnson marked National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 8-12) and National Teacher Day (May 9) by posting a video message to teachers across North Carolina public schools and public charter schools.
In the message, Superintendent Johnson noted his gratitude to teachers for all the roles they assume to help students succeed. He also called teachers “the most important part of a student’s learning in school.”

National Teacher Appreciation Week was first formally recognized by the National PTA in 1985. Each year, schools and communities make a special effort to say thank you to local teachers for their key contributions in students’ lives and in the community. In North Carolina, there are more than 100,000 public school and public charter school teachers serving 1.5 million students
