Bladen County Get out and VoteAs you prepare to head out to the polls to cast their ballots, you will want to remember to bring along their photo ID.  For the first time in North Carolina, voters will be required to show their photo identification during this election.

While voters are required to show their identification at the polls, now, there are still legal challenges to the law working their way through the judicial system. A federal trial on the matter ended weeks ago and attorneys are still awaiting the federal judge’s decision.

Currently, North Carolina is one of 19 states that require some form of a photo identification, according to Ballotpedia. Fourteen other states accept other forms of identification. If a person is unable to obtain a valid photo ID due to a reasonable impediment, they will still be allowed to cast a provisional ballot.

Under the new voter ID law acceptable forms of identification include NC driver’s license/permit or state identification card, US passport/passport card, military identification card, veteran’s identification card, and certain tribal enrollment cards.
