RALEIGH – Commercial poultry industry employees are invited to attend one of three regional information meetings to discuss the state’s preparations for response to a possible highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak.

The meetings will take place at Iredell County Cooperative Extension on June 15; Randolph County Cooperative Extension on June 16; and Duplin County Cooperative Extension on June 17.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza is currently affecting states in the Midwest and there is a possibility of it being introduced into this state’s poultry flocks this fall. State veterinary officials will discuss the severity and threat of HPAI, biosecurity and surveillance methods, depopulation methods and availability, composting and disposal options, testing procedures and review the resources available through local, state and federal agencies.

Poultry industry employees, including veterinarians, farm managers and other associated employees are encouraged to attend. The meetings are free and lunch will be provided. All meetings will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meetings and information focused at small-flock owners will come at a later date.

Space is limited and participants must pre-register online. For more information, and a link to registration, go to www.ncagr.gov/avianflu.
