On Tuesday morning North Carolina Department of Transportation announced the Elwell Ferry would be open on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
According to Faye Boyne with NCDOT, both lanes of the northbound US Highway 701 over the Cape Fear River are closed. She wants to remind travelers that highway traffic is rerouted to the southbound lanes, and the closure has a WIDE LOAD TRAFFIC RESTRICTION.
