The N.C. Department of transportation announced Wednesday that Elwell Ferry will be closed through March 20 because of high water levels.
The cable-operated ferry crosses the Cape Fear River and connects N.C. 87 and N.C. 53 connecting Carvers Creek and Kelly. It’s located at 2700 Elwell Ferry Road.

• SR1003 (Twisted Hickory Road) is closed for crossline repair southwest of Burney Road through March 23 at 5 p.m.
• US 701N: Both lanes of the northbound side over the Cape Fear River are closed. Traffic will be rerouted to the southbound lanes. The closure has a wide load traffic restriction.
