North Carolina Department of Transportation in Fayetteville announced yesterday on Twitter, “Our crews have finished all of the crossline pipe replacements and repaved the road ahead of schedule on N.C. 53 near the Bladen-Cumberland county border.”

Andrew Barksdale, NCDOT Public Relations Officer for Divisions 2, 4 and 6, reported in October that the NCDOT maintenance in Cumberland County was planning to start a project to replace four crossline drainage pipes near each other along NC 53. The repair would affect the NC 53 highway traffic from the Cumberland-Bladen Co. border northward to Johnston Road in Cumberland County.

Barksdale said in an email last month, “When we start, we want to work as fast as possible, including night work, and hope to reopen that stretch of NC 53, after it closes, in about a week’s time.

The start date for the project was October 31.

Barksdale confirmed today that NCDOT reached their goal and finished early. Barksdale stated this morning, “All of the work was completed yesterday, and N.C. 53 north of White Lake reopened yesterday at around 6 p.m.”
