WILSON – Junior Daneesha Briggs poured in 31 points Tuesday night to lead Wilson Beddingfield to a 48-24 victory over West Bladen in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Girls Basketball Playoffs.

Briggs sparked the Lady Bruins to an early 14-3 lead with 2 baskets, 2 free throws and a 3-point bomb. Junior Lainey Autry tossed in the first Lady Knight basket of the game, and sophomore Mallory Bryan netted a free throw.

Sophomore Megan Pait drained a 3-point shot, sophomore Brookee Singletary powered in a basket, and freshman Holland Davis sank a free throw as the Lady Knights trimmed the Beddingfield lead to 14-9 with 4:35 on the 1st half clock. However, a T’Johnna Harris 3-ball helped the the Lady Bruins pad the halftime margin to 19-9.

Briggs lit up the scoreboard with a pair of 3-balls, a trio of other baskets and 2 free throws as Beddingfield stretched their lead to 37-15. Singletary dropped in a basket and a free throw for West in the period. Megan Pait popped in a basket, and junior Makayla Wright added a free throw.

Sophomore Kiera Lewis drilled in a 3-point shot for West in the final period, and Singletary worked the paint for 2 more baskets. Singletary led the Lady Knight scoring with 9 points, and Megan Pait and Lewis finished with 5 points each.

Harris and Pinky Marshall followed Briggs with on the Beddingfield scoring list with 7 points each.

The Lady Knights completed their season with a 9-14 record. Beddingfield, now 20-4, will host Oxford Webb, a 69-39 winner over Midway, Thursday night.
