Both of First Flight’s basketball teams will make the trek from Kill Devil Hills to Bladen County Tuesday as the Lady Nighthawks will visit East Bladen in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Girls State Play-offs. Gametime is 5:30 p.m. The Nighthawk boys are at West Bladen at 7.

Coach Mike Head’s First Flight girls tied for second place in the Northeastern Coastal 2A with Pasquootank County behind Bertie. The Lady Nighthawks averaged 46 ppg and gave up 34 ppg.

First Flight lost twice to Bertie, Pasquotank County and Williamston Riverside and one time each to Elizabeth City Northeastern and Currituck County.

Sophmore Jaylan Ulmer leads the Lady Nighthawks with a 17.8 points and 5 rebounds per game. Junior Jayden Carpenter follows with averages of 15 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Six-foot freshman Judy Williams adds 5.5 points and 5 rebounds per game. Senior Tiffany Ostrom contributes 4.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles posted a 21-5 record and finished second in the Four County 2A/1A Conference behind powerful Clinton. East Bladen lost 2 of 3 games to East Columbus, two games to Clinton and once to Midway.

The Lady Eagles average 46 points per game and give up 31 ppg. Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson leads East Bladen scoring 17.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

Junior Shardajah Brown adds 7.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Freshman Patience Ward contributes 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Senior Emily Scott pulls down 7.3 rebounds and 5.5 points per game. Sophmore Ashley Hardin adds 6.1 rebounds per game.
