East Bladen, the No. 5 seed in the East, will host Trinity Wheatmore, the No. 12 Eastern seed, Friday at 6 p.m. in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 2A girls’ soccer playoffs.

Coach Jay Raynor’s Lady Eagles, co-champions of the Three Rivers Conference, edged East Davidson 2-1 in Tuesday’s playoff opener behind goals from junior Sydney Wober and freshman Maya McDonald.

McDonald sparks the East Bladen attack with 36 goals and 14 assists. Wober has 27 goals and 16 assists. Senior Ashley Hardin (15 goals and 24 assists) missed Tuesday’s game with an injury. Sophomore Kenia Medina played a key role defensively in Tuesday’s win.

Wheatmore, the tri-champions of the Pac-7 Conference, defeated Winston-Salem Atkins 2-1 in its opening round game. Sophomore Taylor Comer leads the Lady Warriors scoring with 23 goals, and senior Emma Baynard has contributed 10 goals and a team-high 19 assists to the Wheatmore attack.

The teams share a common opponent in East Davidson. Wheatmore swept East Davidson 4-1 and 3-1 in a pair of nonconference games.
