FRANKLINTON – East Bladen’s boys scored 23 points in the relays, 14 in the discus and 12 in the jumps to captured 4th place in the NCHSAA Class 2A Mid East Track & Field Regionals. The Eagles racked up 60 points to finish behind Burlington Cummings (115 points), Durham School of the Arts (90 points) and Carrboro (86 points).

The West Bladen girls and the East Bladen girls tied with Fairmont for 9th place in the girls meet with 20 points each. Durham School of the Arts took 1st place with 145 points in the girls meet.

*East Bladen’s 4×800 relay team of senior A. J. Smith, freshman Zachary Metz, sophomore Jacob Knuth, sophomore Blaine Pope and senior Damondta Smith won their event with a time of 9 minutes 18.41 seconds.

Eagle sophomore Malcolm Bolden won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 8.5 inches, and East Bladen senior Devin Bowen won the discus with a throw of 114 ft. 4 in.

West Bladen junior Jessalyn Vendrick won the girls shot put with a heave of 33 ft. 5 in. Lady Knight senior Tinyauh Rhoda placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.39 seconds to tally 6 points and added 4 points with a 5th place finish in the 100 meters in 13.13 seconds.

Senior Shyron Adams, the only West Bladen boy competing in the regionals, captured 3rd place in the long jump with a leap of 21 ft. 0.5 in. to score 6 points.

The East Bladen 4×200 relay team scored 6 points with a 3rd place finish in 1 min. 33.9 sec. Team members are senior Charles Brown, junior Timothy McLean, Pope, Zavrion Palmer and Bolden.

The Eagle boys 4×100 relay team of McLean, Bolden, freshman Jayden Dailey and Brown earned 5 points with a 4th place finish in 44.93 seconds.

In the 3200 meters A. J. Smith scored 5 points with a 4th place finish in 11 min. 54 sec., and Knuth tallied 3 points with a 6th place finish. Pope scored 3 points with a 6th place finish in the 400 meters.

Sophomore Zylique Lewis hurled the discus 98 ft. 11 in. to take 5th place and score 4 points. Freshman Yontee Dobson cleared 5 ft. 2 in. in the high jump to place 7th and tally 2 points.

The Eagle 4×400 relay team was 7th with a time 4 min. 10.38 sec. and scored 2 points. Team members are A. J. Smith, Pope, Damondta Smith, Metz and Nixon.

The Lady Eagles 4×200 relay team finished 3rd in 1min. 58.53 sec. to score 6 points. Team members are senior Aaniyah Jackson, freshman Tayla Jackson, senior Aniyah McKoy and junior Azariah Rhodie.

The East Bladen girls 4×400 relay team also placed 3rd in 5 min. 5.2 sec. to score 6 points. Team members are Aaniyah Jackson, junior Shaquanna Kemp, junior Cate DeVane, Aniyah McKoy and junior Nacaela Melvin.

DeVane also tallied 4 points with a 5th place finish in the 1600 meters with a time of 6 min. 40.77 sec. She also picked up another point with an 8th place finish in the 800 meters in 3 min. 1.76 sec.

Junior Tatianna McElveen placed 7th in the discus with a throw of 67 ft. 10 in. and scored 2 points. The 4×100 relay team earned 1 point with an 8th place finish. Team members are: Aaniyah Jackson, junior Maya McDonald, Rhodie, McKoy and Tayla Jackson.

The Class 2A state meet will be held Saturday, June 26 at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
