DUBLIN – Seniors Laikyn Pait and Sophia Singletary walloped 2-run doubles during a 4-run sixth-inning rally that propelled West Bladen to a 5-2 victory over Farmville Central in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Softball Play-offs.

The Lady Knights trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth. Senior Kassidy Anderson belted a one-out single to left, and senior Logan Autry sacrificed her to second. Senior Alanna Ludlum legged out an infield hit that sent Anderson to third base.

Pait hammered a double to deep right-centerfield that scored Anderson and Ludlum and put West Bladen ahead 3-2. Pait took third on a wild pitch, and sophmore Carley Dawson beat out an infield hit. Singletary smashed a double over the leftfielder’s head that scored Pait and Dawson and stretched the Lady Knight lead to 5-2.

Singletary pitched a 7-hitter and struck out two. Only one of the Farmville runs was earned.

Carley Dawson blasted a solo home run over the centerfield fence in the second inning for the first West Bladen run after Farmville had scored single runs in the first 2 innings.

Sydney Wade drove in the first inning Farmville run with a single, and singles by Caroline Breault and Ivy Hood produced another run in the second inning.

Carley Dawson batted 2-4 with the home run, a run batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Pait and Singletary both delivered a 2-run double, and Pait scored a run. Anderson and Ludlum connected for one hit each and scored one run each.

Gracen Terrell was the losing pitcher for Farmville.

Coach Joey Autry’s Lady Knights improved to 20-3 and will host Washington in the second round.
