RAMSEUR – Senior Savannah Beaver pitched a 2-hit shutout and walloped 2 triples to lead Eastern Randolph to a 12-0 victory over West Bladen in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A softball playoffs Monday night.

Senior Cournee Carter walked, and freshman Addie Flinchum singled to begin the Lady Wildcat 1st inning. Beaver’s triple to leftfield scored both runners, and Beaver dashed home on Olivia Hall’s sacrifice fly. Sophomore Skylar Pugh hammered a triple and scored on freshman Logann Beaver’s single for a 4-0 Eastern Randolph lead.

Another Beaver triple and singles by Pugh, sophomore Dori Luther, freshman Ziera Watson, Carter and Hall keyed an 8-run Lady Wildcat 3rd inning that pushed the lead to 12-0.

Sophomore Madison Taylor laced a single to left-centerfield in the 4th inning for the 1st West Bladen hit. Freshman Gracie Faircloth smacked a single to rightfield in the 5th inning for the other Lady Knight hit. Junior Jessalynn Vendrick and freshman Lena Trinidad were both hit by pitches, and senior Abigail Madden reached base on an error in the 1st inning.

Sophomore Rylee Chadwick started and pitched 0.1 innings for West Bladen allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and a walk. Taylor relieved her in the 1st inning and pitched 2 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, a walk and a hit batter. Sophomore Kylie Durden pitched the final 1.2 innings for the Lady Knights and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and a walk while striking out one.

Savannah Beaver drove in 2 runs and scored 2 for Eastern Randolph. Pugh finished 2-for-2 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Carter batted 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Watson was also 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

The Lady Knights completed their season with a 10-5 record. Eastern Randolph advances to play at North Johnston who defeated East Duplin 6-0.
