WASHINGTON – West Bladen scored first Tuesday night, but top-seeded Washington bounced back to claim a 15-1 victory in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A softball playoffs.

Junior Kyla Reed beat out an infield hit in the Lady Knight first inning, raced to third base when junior Alara Cashwell belted a single and scored on freshman Hannah Pait’s fielder’s choice.

Seniors Lily Wright and Sydney Keech belted two-run singles to highlight Washington’s seven-run first inning. The Lady Pam Pack tacked on three runs in the second inning, one in the third and four more runs in the fourth.

Keech batted a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs batted in to lead the Washington hitters. Wright was 2-for-2 with two RBI’s. Summer Campbell batted 3-for-4, and junior Emme Davis slugged a home run and a double. Freshman Laci Campbell batted 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and pitcher Abbi Tucker batted 2-for-4.

Tucker pitched a four-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts.

Reed batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Lady Knights. Cashwell and senior Conner Brisson added one hit each, and Pait had an RBI. Sophomore Shelby Pharr started in the circle for West Bladen.

The Lady Knights completed their season with an 11-10 record.
