The Elizabethtown Town Council met in regular session Monday evening and held a public hearing regarding the request of a Special Use Permit for construction of a Hardee’s Restaurant located at 213 South Poplar Street .  Later in the meeting, Council approved the permit as requested.  According to the builder, the previous Hardee’s was shut down by corporate office.  They hope to have this restaurant opened by the end of the year.

Police Chief Tony Parrish presented Officers Willie Thompson, Thomas Davis, and Jeromy Martin as the first promotion candidates for his new program that started in April.  Juanita Hester conducted the Oath of Office for three officers who have been promoted to Sergeant positions in the department.

In other business, Council approved resolutions to deem an old Equipment Truck as surplus property for the fire department and the Unpaid Fiscal Years’ Tax Report and Order for Tax Collection.  A rezoning request was also approved as presented in June for the property of Anne and Maceo Purdie.  Council approved the Monthly Financial report and set the September meeting date to Tuesday, September 6th.
