ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County has a new pregnancy center called the Mercy House Pregnancy Resource Center.

Megan Knight, director of The Mercy House, made this center for mothers and fathers in need all around Bladen County.

She said, “The idea started for me long ago, but I brought it up to the (Bladen Baptist) Association in about September of last year, so we’ve been working towards getting here.”

This nonprofit helps mothers and fathers who might be single or married with an unexpected child on the way. They may need help raising their child or need clarification about what to do with a new baby. According to Knight, this center helps console and educate, allowing the person comfort and ease throughout the parenting process.

The new pregnancy center reaches out to any parent of any age, helping anyone who needs the help. The center has classes that help teach parents how to raise their children and what to do.

Knight explained that you can earn points with these classes, also known as “baby bucks.” These points can help you buy clothes, diapers, wipes, car seats, and cribs. Knight says, “We call it to earn while you learn. You go to class to learn while earning baby bucks.”

The open house was on Saturday, February 25th, with an estimated 100 people in attendance. Knight opened with a sermon and thanked everyone for coming, and *Rev. Warren Hill closed with a prayer.

*Rev. Hill said, “I know this will help Bladen County immensely because it will help all the lost mothers out there struggling.” Most of the people who helped set up the center were volunteers; two sisters, Nancy and June, were some of the volunteers who helped. They said, “We learned about this center about a month ago and knew we had to help.”

The center is also taking donations of money, lightly used or brand-new baby supplies, brand-new diapers, and wipes.

The center takes walk-ins on Tuesdays between 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and scheduled appointments on Wednesdays from noon until 3 p.m. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (910) 247-6303, or emailing themercyhouseprc@gmail.com. The address for the center is 509 S. Cypress Street in Elizabethtown. The web site is https://www.bladenbaptists.com/The-Mercy-House.htm

According to the center officials, they hope to help anyone in need during pregnancy or raising children.

*When first published Rev. David Foster from the Bladen Baptist Association was quoted, however, the prayer and quote was not by Rev. Foster, but by Rev. Warren Hill.
