A horse barn in Kelly was destroyed by fire and two horses were killed on Monday.

The barn was located at 17777 NC 53 East, Kelly. Bladen County Emergency Management Director Bradley Kinlaw said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The one of the owners of the property, Dianne Tabor, suffered burn injuries as she attempted to rescue animals from the barn until the fire became too severe for her to safely re-enter the building. Kinlaw said she was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington for treatment.

A nearby home and vehicle were also damaged by the fire. Tabor resided with her husband, Timothy, in the nearby home.

According to a Go Fund Me page set up by Jennifer Witkowski, to assist the couple, the family lost their tack as well as the two miniature horses, TJ and Catch. To donate to the GoFundMe page, click here.
