Sixty-three players teed it up Tuesday to play South Carolina’s Cheraw State Park Golf Course. The winning team, with a score of 56, was Al Hackney, Larry Suggs, C.L. Gore and James Simmons. A feature of this week’s tourney was Elizabethtown’s Stacy Owen having his first hole-in-one. Stacy’s ace came on hole number 8, a 125 yard par three. Relay For Life for 2017 was another successful event. It was held yesterday at Elizabethtown Middle School. This has been an Annual Event for many, many years and hopefully goals were met in the fight to defeat cancer. Some successes have been made, more are needed. Another example of volunteers doing good. Can’t help being a little frustrated when we are told proceeds from certain products will benefit designated needs. Kayla Gutierrez, granddaughter of Vineyard Golf’s owner Bill Augustine, recently won the Philly PGA Junior Tour tournament held at Buena Vista Country Club. Dent had contact with Campbell and UNC-Wilmington early in the recruiting process, but eventually Newberry, UNC-Pembroke, Fayetteville State, Elizabeth City and Mt. Olive would come calling.
