Both Christmas parades held in Bladen County annually have been canceled for this year.

Jane Walters, one of the organizers of the Bladenboro parade said, “We really hate that we can’t have the parade this year, but hopefully and prayerfully we can have it next year.”

Commissioner Charles Ray Peterson did announce the Town of Bladenboro would hold their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony the first Friday in December around 6 p.m. Santa Claus is scheduled to be in attendance.

Terri Dennison with the Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce stated in an email, “We have faced alot this year with figuring out how to respond to the COVID pandemic and the forced cancellation of some favorite events.”

The Chamber has organized some other festivities to celebrate the holidays. Following are the events and details Dennison released.

Merchant Sidewalk Sales and Specials

Chamber Information Booth at Farmers Market

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:30pm at the Courthouse

Judging of the Storefront Decorating Contest takes place after Lighting Ceremony.

Sat., 11/28

TOUR OF CHURCHES  from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Ticket can be obtained at the Chamber Booth in the  Farmers Market or online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tour-of-churches-bladen-county-nc-tickets-126312310521. The Chamber is requesting a $5 donation.

ELF SCAVENGER HUNT begins: Shoppers will visit local merchants to locate the E-WL Elf and then get their Scavenger Hunt card punched. After they have visited a certain amount of merchants, they can submit their card to be entered into a drawing for a large stocking filled with goodies from area merchants.  This will run thru Dec. 19.

LIGHTING OF LAKE BEGINS at 6:00 PM: Self guided tour around White Lake with 4 viewpoints.
