Today, Faye M. Boyne, with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, released an updated list of road closings. Today both lanes of the North Bound US Highway 701 North over the Cape Fear River in Elizabethtown are closed.
Traffic on the highway will be rerouted to the Southbound lanes of US Highway 701. Boyne reiterated the closure has a WIDE LOAD TRAFFIC RESTRICTION.
In Boyne’s announcement, she confirmed NC 53 near the White Oak Post Office, and Cain’s Grill would be closed for cross-line replacements. The work is scheduled to begin on October 19, 2020, and last through November 6, 2020. According to Boyne, during the replacement road work, the detoured will be as follows: River Road (SR1318) to Tabor church Road (SR 2023) in Cumberland County.
Then to Johnson Road (SR 2228) in Cumberland County, taking you to NC53 in Cumberland County.
Boyne also noted Elwell Ferry is closed. There was no mention of when the ferry may reopen.
