SOUTHPORT – Bladen County defeated North Granville 6-3 Sunday in the North Carolina Dixie Boys State Tournament.
 
Drew Sholar, Greyson Clark, Cody Butler and Zach Meares all saw action on the mound for Bladen County in the victory.
 
Bladen County advances to a 2 p.m. game Tuesday against the loser of the Brunswick/Dallas game. 
 
Bladen County scored 3 runs in the first inning. Ethan Johnson slammed a double to left-centerfield, and Zach Meares was hit by a pitch. Cody Butler reached base on an error as Johnson scored, and Brady Hollingsworth raked a 2-run single to left field that plated Meares and Cody Butler. 
 
Clark led off the second inning with a single to right field, and Johnson followed with a hit to left, but Clark was retired at second base. Gabe Barber reached base on a fielder’s choice and eventually scored the fourth Bladen run.
 
Barber reached base on an error in the Bladen fourth inning and raced home when Meares belted a single. 
 
Hollingsworth was hit by a pitch in the Bladen fifth inning, and Xavier McKoy laced a single to centerfield. Hollingsworth was forced at third, but McKoy scored as Jake Evans’ reached base on an error. 
 
Johnson batted 3-4 with a double and a run scored. McKoy finished 2-2 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Hollingsworth cracked the 2-run single, and Meares and Clark added one hit each. 
 
Barber scored 2 runs, and Meares and Cody Butler scored one run each. Evans and Cody Butler drove in one run each.
