SOUTHPORT – Dallas defeated Bladen County 10-4 Wednesday night in the semi-finals of the North Carolina Dixie Boys State Tournament.
Bladen County finished in a tie for third-place in the state tourney. Unbeaten Dallas, the 2015 Dixie Boys World Series champions, will play once-beaten Kings Mountain Thursday at 2 p.m. for the state title and the trip to the World Series.
Bladen County scored all 4 of their runs in the first inning. Ethan Johnson cracked a single to rightfield to start the inning. Zach Meares knocked in Johnson with a single to centerfield.
Cody Butler belted a single to leftfield, before Brady Hollingsworth walloped a 3-run home run over the left-centerfield fence that scored Meares and Cody Butler.
Meares pitched the first 5 innings for Bladen County, and Greyson Clark relieved and pitched the final 2 innings.
Hollingworth’s 3-run homer led the Bladen hitters. Teammates Johnson, Gabe Barber, Meares, Cody Butler, Xavier McKoy and Jake Evans connected for one hit each. Meares drove in a run and scored a run. Johnson, Cody Butler and Hollingsworth scored one run each.
