AutismGovernor Pat McCrory and First Lady Ann McCrory are recognizing World Autism Awareness Month and Day. The Executive Mansion in Raleigh and the Western Residence in Asheville was illuminated in blue light on Saturday evening as part of the international campaign to raise awareness for autism. In addition, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor in Raleigh was also lit blue.

“The Executive Mansion and Western Residence will be shining bright blue for autism awareness as we join landmarks, businesses, and homes around the world,”said First Lady Ann McCrory. “We are honoring these talented individuals and resilient families, and also highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.”
The lightings are part of the Light It Up Blue campaign, sponsored by the national organization Autism Speaks.
“We are proud to join Autism Speaks in the ‘Light it Up Blue’ campaign to raise awareness of autism in our state,” said Governor McCrory. “North Carolina is committed to spreading awareness and offering support to individuals with autism.”

The governor signed a proclamation declaring April 2, 2016, as “World Autism Awareness Day” and the entire month of April as “World Autism Awareness Month.”
