UnemploymentRALEIGH — The state’s seasonally adjusted June unemployment rate was 5.8 percent, increasing 0.1 of a per- centage point from May’s revised rate. The national rate decreased 0.2 of a percentage point to 5.3 percent.

North Carolina’s June 2015 unemployment rate was 0.4 of a percentage point lower than a year ago. The number of people employed decreased 4,097 over the month to 4,493,682, and increased 151,584 over the year. The number of people unemployed increased 4,810 over the month to 277,151, and declined 10,464 over the year.

Seasonally adjusted Total Nonfarm industry employment, as gathered through the monthly establishment survey, decreased 3,100 to 4,238,000 in June. The major industry with the largest over-the-month increase was Trade, Transportation & Utilities, 4,400, followed by Professional & Business Services, 2,700; Financial Activities, 2,600; and Education & Health Services, 300. Major industries experiencing decreases were Government, 7,800; Construction, 2,000; Leisure & Hospitality Services, 1,500; Information, 1,000; and Manufacturing, 800. Mining & Logging and Other Services employment remained unchanged over the month.

Since June 2014, Total Nonfarm jobs gained 97,500 with the Total Private sector growing by 106,000 and Govern- ment decreasing by 8,500. The largest over-the-year increase among major industries was Professional & Busi- ness Services at 24,500, followed by Trade, Transportation & Utilities, 19,600; Leisure & Hospitality Services, 14,500; Education & Health Services, 14,300; Construction, 11,900; Manufacturing, 10,200; Financial Activities, 6,500; Other Services, 3,800; and Information, 800. Major industries experiencing decreases over the year were Government, 8,500; and Mining & Logging, 100.
The next unemployment update is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2015 when the county unemployment rates for June 2015 will be released.
