September 12, 1986 – October 18, 2024 (age 38)
Matthew, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and a passion for life. Born and raised in the community, Matthew graduated from East Bladen High School before continuing his education at NC State University. It was at NC State that he became a founding member and former president of the ATO Fraternity chapter, where he built lifelong friendships and embodied the spirit of brotherhood.
From a young age, Matthew was involved in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 600. His time in scouting fostered not only his love of the outdoors but also honed his unique pyrotechnic skills, which he often showcased during family gatherings, entertaining friends and neighbors with dazzling heaven reaching flames.
Matthew pursued a successful career as a flooring contractor at Terry’s Floor Fashions in Raleigh, NC, where he was known for his hard work, expertise, and commitment to his craft. Outside of work, his life was filled with the joys of boating, fishing, and coaching his children’s sports teams. He was a devoted father who cherished every moment spent with his family, whether on the water or on the sidelines.
A lover of simple pleasures, Matthew had an affinity for cheap candy, a quirky trait that brought smiles to those who knew him best.
His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. Matthew is survived by his loving family and friends, who will forever cherish his generous spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering love.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raymond J. Krause, Sr., MD and Dorothy Dunn Krause; and maternal grandparents, Robert E. Cheesman and Mildred Faustich Cheesman.
