Good morning! 3 things to know for Monday, October 19

Three Things to Know1. Bladen County Board of Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the lower level of the courthouse in Elizabethtown. Among the items on the agenda is a report from Emergency Medical Services Chief David Howell, who is expected to update the board on a plan to improve response time to calls.

2. The N.C. Department of Transportation will close U.S. 301 at Exit 22 on Interstate 95 in Lumberton beginning tonight at 10. The exit will be closed from 10 p.m. until 6 p.m. each night through Thursday to allow crews to finish the final paving operation for the diverging diamond interchange at that location.

3. The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Division is accepting applications for its 2016 Bicycle Helmet Initiative. In an effort to promote bike safety for kids, the initiative distributes helmets to children from low-income families, and is open to both government and non-government agencies. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. For more information and to download the application, visit http://www.ncdot.gov/bikeped/safetyeducation/helmet_initiative/
