October 31, 2015: 3 things to know

Good morning! 3 things to know for Saturday, October 31

1. It’s Halloween and it looks to be ideal trick-or-treating weather. Of course, the weather isn’t always ideal. The warmest Halloween on record in North Carolina is 90 degrees at Southport in 1971. The coldest Halloween night is 10 degrees at Mount Michell in 1930. The wettest is 7.05 inches at Morehead City in 1985. Figures courtesy of the N.C. State Climate Office.

2. If you say there’s nothing to do today in Bladen County, then you’re just not interested in doing anything. For the early risers, there’s the Beast Fest 5k beginning at 6:30 a.m. at Bladenboro Town Hall and the White Oak Fire Department’s pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the station located on N.C. 53. The Bladenboro Beast Fest is from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Jones Lake is hosting its Fall Festival today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Clarkton Dixie Youth Baseball Haunted House is open from 7 p.m. until midnight at the corner of N.C. 211 West and White/McEwen Road. The White Lake Haunted Trail is open from 8 p.m. until midnight at the Water Rescue building on N.C. 53. Several churches also have planned activities today and tonight.

3. Here’s one final reminder. Turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed tonight. Daylight saving time officially ends Sunday at 2 a.m. It means sunset will be at 5:23 p.m. Sunday. Have you stayed up to “watch” the time change? The biggest thrill is to watch any automatic-set clocks you have reset. If that seems interesting, you need to get a hobby.

And now you know.
