elizabethtownpolicedepartmentlogoThe Fayetteville Police Department is being sued by an Elizabethtown Police officer after a 2014 incident in which he claims two Fayetteville Police Officers were guilty of racial profiling.

Officer Willie Thompson filed the lawsuit on Jan. 13 in Cumberland County Superior Court and is seeking a jury trial and damages of more than $25,000.

According to reports, the lawsuit stems from an incident that took place on Dec. 2, 2014. Thompson was arrested and temporarily detained after white police officers mistook him for a suspect. Thompson’s lawsuit alleges that the officers ignored his requests to retrieve his law enforcement credentials from his car and also ignored his attempts to explain that he was a law enforcement officer with the Elizabethtown Police Department.
