Hugh Freeze, the head football coach at the University of Mississippi, was in Elizabethtown Tuesday and visited with East Bladen Coach Robby Priest and Larrell and Farrell Murchison’s father, Milton Murchison.

Larrell Murchison, a 6-4 290-pound defensive tackle, is verbally committed to the University of Mississippi and is expected to sign a Letter of Intent to play football for the Rebels on National Signing Day, February 5th.

Coach Freeze has been head coach at Mississippi for 5 seasons and his teams have compiled a 39-25 record. Freeze is one of only 3 coaches to defeat a Nick Saban-coached team in back-to-back seasons. The Rebels beat Alabama in 2014 and 2015.

Earlier in his career Freeze coached at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, TN where he was depicted in the movie The Blind Side – the movie about current Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Michael Oher who Freeze coached at Briarcrest. Freeze posted a 94-30 record during his tenure at Briarcrest that lasted from 1992-2004.
