One candidate in the county commissioner countywide race has withdrawn. Al Marshburn, who had filed for the Republican primary in the County Commissioner Countywide race, notified the board of his intent not to run, said Bladen County Board of Elections’ Gina Ward.

The field for the county commissioner countywide race now features incumbent Dems James G. “Jimmie” Smith, and G. Michael Cogdell who are joined by fellow Dem. Pamela Benton and Republican David Gooden.

In the County Commissioner District 3 democratic race incumbent Commissioner Wayne Edge is facing a challenge from Kenneth Register Jr.

In the Bladen County Board of Education District 1 democratic race Glenn C. McKoy will face off against Sabrina Murchison.

In the Board of Education District 2 democratic race incumbent Wilbur Smith Jr. will face a challenge from Berry Lewis.

Also on the March ballot will be four referendums. The first is the Connect NC Public Improvement Bond which, if approved, will provides funds for improvements to roads, state parks, public safety, the public schools and community colleges to name a few things.

White Lake voters will decide whether or not to allow the sale of unfortified wine both “on premises” and “off premises” and the sale of malt beverages both “on premises” and “off premises.”

Bladen County voters will be asked once more to approve a quarter-cent sales tax to be used to reduce the property tax by two cents.
