Klahikan Lodge – Order of the Arrow had their “One Day of Service” with cheerful acts of service by helping clean up Browns Creek Bike Park & Nature Trail in Elizabethtown, NC this Saturday, October 17th.
Davie Carroll, Youth Chair of Klahikan Lodge, assisted in gathering other Scouts to help the chapter organize the “One Day of Service.” According to Carroll there were around 30 scouts out helping clean up the bike trails and park. There were Scouts from different troops out working to make the grounds better for bikers and the general public to enjoy, according to Carroll.
Chris Scholar, Order of the Arrow Advisor, explained, “This is the 100th anniversary since the founding of our order nationally. Order of the Arrow was founded in 1915, and it’s a national honor society for Scouting.”
According to Scholar, the Klahikan Lodge is the Cape Fear Chapter of the national group. He said every year the honor society holds “One Day of Service” all across the nation.
“This is our second year here.” Scholar said. “We came here to the bike park and cleaned for our “One Day of Service” last year.”
The day started at 8:30 am and ended around 3 pm with lunch provided to all those that participated. The clean-up event was open to all Scouts and Scout Leaders, according to Carroll.
Everyone was encouraged to bring their bikes and helmets to enjoy riding the trails after their work was done.
