A crash between a tractor-trailer and a car resulted in the death of an Elizabethtown on Monday afternoon. The crash was reported at 5:05 p.m. on Airport Road near the intersection with Coley Road.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Ezzel, Isaac Keyshawn Monroe, 21, of Elizabethtown, was driving a 2014 Honda Accord when he crossed the centerline and struck a tractor-trailer head on.

The tractor-trailer was being driven by Phillip Whitted of Clinton for Prestage Farms. He suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to Sgt. Ezzel.

Monroe was transported to Cape Fear Valley-Bladen Healthcare in Elizabethtown and then airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington where he passed away as a result of his injuries.

Sgt. Ezzel said Monroe was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash.

Funeral arrangements for Monroe are incomplete as of press time but friends may visit the family at the residence.
