One of Bladen County’s favorite, most talented Artists, Kathryn Sellers Bunn, of White Lake has been seen on these warm summer evenings at the intersection of Hwy 701 and Broad Street in Elizabethtown painting a beautiful portrait of the buildings, Corner Café down to Toddlers and Teens. Better known as Kathy, this local artist is one of the most well-known, admired artists in Bladen County according to most of our residents.

Kathy taught Art Class for 29 years. She taught at East Bladen High School for many of those years. Now, she gives Art lessons out of her home for children and adults alike. When she is praised for her talent Kathy responds saying, “It’s not really about talent. It’s about passion. If you are passionate about something it really makes a difference.”

Nye Insurance Agency, Inc., in Elizabethtown commissioned Kathy to paint two different canvases of the buildings on Broad Street to go in the Nye Insurance Agency’s new office because the buildings are part of their heritage. Kitty Nye said, “The Corner Cafe was originally Cole’s Feed and Seed, owned by Willis Cole (Kitty’s grandfather). They sold live chicks, ducks, and rabbits, as well as the feed and seed. Now the corner building is owned by the grandchildren of Willis Cole.” Now, thanks to Kathy, the Nye family will have a mural to honor their legacy.

Some of Kathy’s artwork is already showcased in local businesses and homes around Bladen County. Kathy has her art for sale at Smellie Bloomers in Elizabethtown. She is also currently in the top running in an iPrintfromHome.com contest with her painting “Sparkling Moments”. To find out more about Kathy you may visit her website at, http://kathybunn.com/.
