One by one, names of each player and coach were called Friday night for the 23 teams participating in Dixie Youth Baseball Majors state tournament at Leinwand Park in Elizabethtown. District 2 director Frankie Burney from Clarkton greeted each player and coach.

The tournament, which features a Division I and Division 2 bracket, had opening ceremonies Friday night with Elizabethtown Mayor Sylvia Campbell welcoming those in attendance.

DYB State Director Carey Wrenn presented a plaque to Jackson Bostic in recognition of him winning a $2,000 Dixie Youth Baseball scholarship. Bostic, who also sang the national anthem, plans to attend East Carolina University.

Joe Melvin led the group in prayer.

The Division 2 tournament opened Friday prior to the ceremonies. There are five more games Saturday in the tournament.

The Division 1 tournament opens Saturday with six games beginning at 10 a.m. Bladen County plays Elizabethtown at 8 p.m.

The tournaments are scheduled to run through Thursday or Friday.
