Many have been waiting to hear from a farmer about their opinion on the hog industry lawsuits. Farm Operations Manager, Travis Brown with HD3 Farms spoke with Charlotte Smith from BladenOnline.com about the Hog Industry Lawsuits, solutions in the industry and how it is affecting farm employees.
Brown discussed the stress of the uncertainty the farmers are facing, the lack of media coverage on the huge lawsuits and potential ways to reduce odors from hog farming. Brown said he is a big supporter of promoting exactly what goes into being a hog farmer.
Educating the public about why the hog industry operates the way it does is key according to Brown. Transparency in the industry is important Brown suggested.
His mother lives in Charlotte, North Carolina and Brown said she was shocked to hear about the multi-million dollar awards for the plaintiffs in the hog industry lawsuits. “It isn’t in the news here,” she said.
Brown has given many interviews this week since the media found out there is no gag order on farms’ employees. His hope is to educate others about the hog industry and ways they strive to be good neighbors.
