Congressman Walter Jones passed away yesterday in Greenville. The 76 year-old incumbent was re-elected to his 13th term in November. News reports indicated he became ill before the new congressional session began. He succeeded his dad who represented, the most eastern district in the state for 25 years. Local note: Bladen County native Bryan Martin, former Elizabethtown planner, has served in his D.C. office for several years.
The 3rd and 9th NC Congressional Districts are currently without a representative in Washington.
