April 15 is a month away, but the closer we get, the faster time seems to move along.

Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting is set for 12 noon today at Cape Fear Farmer’s Market.  Guest speaker will be Greg Martin, Bladen County Manager.  Dutch lunch provided by Burney’s Sweets & More.  Members are encouraged to attend and invite a friend…

A few terms from the past…remember when there were Constables & Recorder Court Judges and Piedmont Airlines…how ’bout a drive-in food site where you could listen to 6 of your favorite tunes for a quarter and a curb hop would take your order and deliver…tray would sorta clip onto the side window of your vehicle?  Still some around, guess closest to that is Sonic Drive In…We were ‘kewl’ cats, a sandwich and soft drink for you and your date for about a dollar.  And you arrived at the site with maybe a dollar’s worth of gas (3 or 4 gallons) in the auto tank.

#1 son sent me a couple of articles about 90 plus year old retirees, both huge Yankee fans.  Latest article was about 99 year old, worked hard all his life, currently in a senior citizens center in Smithfield, NC, and with assistance of friends is flying to New York to see his beloved Yankees and taking 3 friends with him.  Never flown…good article.  The previous article was about a 92 year old signing off his air shift at the radio station at the end of this month after 72 years of broadcasting.

I was a Yankee fan in the 50s and early 60s when the Bronx Bombers were loaded with great players, as were the Dodgers, still in Brooklyn.  Great rivalry and for many years, most likely the teams in the World Series.  Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and for the Dodgers, Roy Campanella, Carl Furillo, and Pee Wee Reese and others.   Sorry, having a senior citizens flashback…

Youth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve; middle age is when you’re forced to.  Bill Vaughn

I didn’t see it {old age} coming —- it hit me from the rear.  Phyllis Diller

Regardless of their age, most folks are not as old as they hope to be.  Anonymous
