Thoughts While Shaving

The Final Four college basketball teams are set for the championship tournament in Minneapolis April 6 – 8.  #1 seeded Virginia will play #5 Auburn Saturday, 6:09 PM, and #2 seeded Michigan State will play #3 Texas Tech at 8:49 PM.  Winners play Monday for the championship.

#1 seeded UNC and Duke ousted, but some great games over the past few days.

Remember 1957?  Not likely unless 70 years old or older.  Carolina (31-0) was coached by Frank McGuire and the Kansas Jayhawks (24-2) head coach was Dick Harp.  Game was played in Kansas City and UNC won 54-53 in triple overtime, one of the greatest games in the history of college basketball.  UNC’s Lennie Rosenbluth was National Player of the Year.  The Jayhawks were led by First-team All American Wilt Chamberlain.  Kansas was pre-game favorite by 3 points.  Carolina starters, in addition to Rosenbluth were Tommy Kearns, Pete Brennan, Joe Quigg and Ken Rosemond.  One of the first, if not the first college game I ever had the privilege of watching on TV…

Duke had a great season this year as well. Congratulations to Coach K and his mostly freshman team.

Time for baseball.  Fayetteville Woodpeckers begin play this year in a new downtown stadium.
