Thoughts While ShavingHigh school football practice is underway, and thanks to a slight dip in temps, more bearable than recent past.  Participants in other fall sports also preparing for the upcoming season.

West Bladen is looking for new ladies basketball coach. Rick Rhoda has resigned to take a teaching job in Fayetteville, where he now lives.

The Knights also have a new head football coach.  Kris Williams replaced Todd Pait, who resigned after one season on the job.

Congratulations to Cade Hancock, the E-town golfer who has been participating in the Optimist Tournament in Florida.  He had a four day total of 305, good for a tie for 35th place.  Over 150 male golfers, ages 16-18, from around the world participated.

Readers are responding to a recent article related to a young Bladen County lady seeking help in her effort to continue her education at NC State.  Marie Lopez Gonzalez is seeking a ‘hand’, not just a ‘handout’ to help her reach her educational goal.  Her goal is $5,000.  At last count 30 had responded and $1,285 has been raised.  How many youngsters have such drive?  You can help, just go to the recent article on our news page, and follow the instructions to make a ‘gofundme’ contribution.

Farmers must be happy about their crops to date.  Soybean growers indicate another ‘good shower of rain’ would be helpful.

Carrol Poultry processing plant in Bladenboro is beginning to hire employees and are preparing for test runs later this month and hopefully start full production in early September.  It’s located in the Bladenboro Industrial Park.
