Visited a friend recently suffering from COPD, then learned of another diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

When you think you have problems, look around you. I am among men so richly blessed.

Stock market has stumbled recently, looking for a turn around. So many retirees living off 401Ks and Social Security, others are hopeful, one day.

Looking forward to meeting many old friends and new ones this weekend at the conclusion of the 110th Annual Meeting of County Commissioners in Durham, my employer for 25 years and prior to that I was active for 8 years as a Bladen County Commissioner. A great group where you share good and bad ideas, hopefully learn from others.

The Band of Oz drew a large crowd at Cape Fear Farmers Market Thursday evening. The final concert in this summer series is scheduled for Thursday, August 24th and will feature the Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band of Clarkton. The concerts are Free.

West Bladen Knights football team will scrimmage Harrells Christian Academy at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at HCA. The Knights open regular season play at South Brunswick on August 25.

East Bladen will open regular season play at Clinton on Friday, August 25.

William McGirt, Fairmont HS grad, now PGA golfer, had to withdraw from last week’s match due to back problems. He is playing in the PGA Championship in Charlotte that began yesterday.  He Open with a 77, plus 6, tied for 108th. A couple of golfers tied for 1st at 4-under after one round of play. McGirt will need a very good round today to continue play over the weekend.
