Thoughts While ShavingWeekend is over, don’t know about you and yours, but at our household, mostly enjoyed, tired and ready to move on to Labor Day weekend….

Drove to Hickory, through Charlotte, and only one lane open on highway 74 (Independence Boulevard.) on Saturday. I had other options, but, about once a year I enjoy a trip through the Queen City.  No reason to return anytime soon.

There is no lack of construction, primarily new bridges, by-passes and repaving by NCDOT and their contractors all across this great state.

My former employer invites my bride and I to their annual meeting and I enjoy….All 100 counties in the state are members of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC), may be the only organization where the members can sit together, regardless of political persuasion, and determine the priorities of county government, who provides services mandated by state and national laws, without a huge political ‘fight’.  Priorities are determined bi-annually.  Differences, yes, but also respect.  Every county has one vote, and neither party has an advantage.  Counties also deal with many other local issues.

Speaking of respect, Sen. John McCain, RIP.

Article out of Winston Salem related to former East Bladen athlete.  Farrell Muchison, one of the twins who were exceptional high school athletes that have moved on to next level, has withdrawn from school to deal with the ‘C’ word.  He has cancer according to various news sources.  He has promised to be back at Winston Salem State University to resume his football career, next year.  In the mean time, brother Larrell , who was red-shirted last year at NC State, is pushing hard for playing time this year on the defensive line.  Prayers for both and their family.
