Thoughts While ShavingThe life of a retiree, especially a senior retiree, is one medical appointment after another, in an effort to keep most of the body parts working.  No complaints, thankful….

The 2018-19 NFL regular season action begins tonight, Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia for an 8:20 PM game with the Eagles.  Sunday, a full slate.

Locally, John Clark has posted a full schedule of high school sports activity, Volleyball, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer and JV Football.   Check our Sports Section.

Discovered an interesting Bloomburg article recently, “Local News is Dying, and It’s Taking Small Town America With It.” Suggest you Google it.  Quoting, “A Duke University study published last month found that the quantity and quality of local news stories is lacking across the country.  Only 17 percent of stories produced by local outlets are based on events that actually occurred nearby.  And more than half of their news reports originated somewhere else, such as a wire service.  With television, segments often come from a network or parent (company), easily repurposed by affiliates anywhere in the country.  (Moreover, only 56 percent of all local reports address a critical informational need–such as crime or infrastructure–rather than celebrity gossip or sports.)”

Frankly, if ‘inserted’ ad slicks were not allowed in the print media, that news source would probably be out of business… the trash can could be emptied less often, the US Postal Service could charge for delivery of the ‘slick ads’ as opposed to them being inserted and delivered at no additional cost as a part of the newspaper subscription.  Just thinking out loud….We need good news sources…but times are a changin’.

OK, sounds as if I am beating the ‘online’ drum to which I plead guilty……
