Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While Shaving‘Bout this time of the year, I begin to expect more fall-like weather, like highs in the upper 70s.  89 yesterday, 90 is forecast for today, a pumpkin will not last long.  Guess I am attempting to rush ‘mother nature’.  Love the sight of a big orange pumpkin with colorful floral arrangements.

Temps in the low to upper 80s over the next week or so.  Looking ahead, first frost in this area, usually last few days of October or early November.

Stock market was ‘not good’ yesterday, well not good for 401k’s and other retirement programs.  Interest rates slowly inching higher, making it more difficult to finance a home, not too bad yet, but change is likely to continue.

A salute to volunteers assisting in the relief efforts after the recent storm.  Again, the old Paul H. Sessoms Building in Elizabethtown, is the headquarters for those seeking relief and those providing much needed items, including household cleaning supplies, etc.  And, how ’bout the folks in Elizabethtown, Ky who delivered a couple of tractor-trailer loads of supplies yesterday.  Good people reaching out to those with a need. More supplies are needed, especially, brooms, mops, buckets and cleaning supplies.  And, volunteers are needed at the site.  Just go and tell them you are ready to assist, a few hours or a few days.

Clarkton Dixie Youth Baseball volunteers are sponsoring an Evening of Music featuring “Pink Slips”, Saturday, October 13.  A ‘rootin’, tootin’ good time for a good cause.

I check the Obits daily, and today see the name Gurney Fletcher Allen, Sr.  Younger folks will not remember, but I do, Gurney served several years as a member of the Bladen County Board of Education.  A good public servant.

A reminder, high school football at 7:30 PM today.  According to BladenOnline sports editor, John Clark….West Bladen plays at Whiteville and East Bladen will be in Fairmont.  Ladies Tennis, West Bladen at South Columbus at 4 PM.

I still miss broadcasting high school football, not likely to return anytime soon.

Community is much more than belonging to something; it’s about doing something together that makes belonging matter.  Brian Solis

Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, they just have the heart.  Elizabeth Andrew
